Just A Thought ~ DARK AGES

"An age is not called dark because there is no light, but because people refuse to see it."

~ James A. Michener, “Space”~

After the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century, Europe fell under the power of the Church, which plunged it into a period known as ‘The Dark Ages’, lasting a thousand years, and during which few people, apart from the monks in their monasteries, could read and write. This ended only with the beginning of the Renaissance in the 15th century, when the knowledge, science, philosophy, astronomy and medical-lore of the ancient Greeks and Romans ~ in short, the spirit of rational inquiry ~ began to trickle back in.
